SCDNR Bat Liaison

Environmental, biological & Sociological Research
After years of regenerative farming practices, Kingbird Pastures is now a prime location for environmental research. Furman University’s Dr. John Quinn brings students to our farm to get hands-on experience studying biology, carbon sequestration, and bird diversity.
We’ve also contributed to Furman’s Dr. Ken Kolb’s research on food deserts and retail inequality in Southeastern communities.
Henry Bee Co.
Henry Bee Co. provides honey bee hives to Kingbird Pastures that produce wildflower honey and pollinate our farm’s crops. Each hive contains 3 types of honey bees and, on average 60,000 workers, 200 drones and 1 queen. The honey bees fly up to 5-7 miles away from their home hive every day during warm months to forage for the nectar to make honey and pollinate our produce and flora on the farm. 80% of the pollination of the fruits, vegetables and seed crops in the U.S. is accomplished by honey bees.
